Insolvencies Study for the First Quarter of 2015

Insolvencies Study Q1 2015

According to the preliminary data published by BPI and based on Coface methodology, in the first quarter of 2015, 2,740 new insolvency procedures were initiated. Despite this fact, Romania continues to have an incidence of insolvencies for every 1,000 active companies that is 4 times higher than the regional average, with 45 insolvencies for every 1,000 active companies, and is first in these rankings.

The record number of decreased insolvencies in the first quarter of 2015 was caused by the decrease of insolvent companies with turnovers under EUR 100 K. At the same time, the decrease of the number of insolvencies was also caused by a significant basic effect (compared to the historic record of last year). Moreover, Romania continues to have an incidence of insolvencies for every 1,000 active companies that is 4 times higher than the regional average, with 45 insolvencies for every 1,000 active companies, and is first in these rankings. Last but not least, the number of insolvencies initiated in the first three months of this year among the companies with turnovers over EUR 1 million is 170 companies, approximately 13% more than in the same period of last year, and the social shock (the number of jobs which could be lost) is 24% higher.

Regarding the sectorial distribution, the manufacture of textile products, drainage and waste removal, constructions, HORECA and the food industry are the top 5 sectors with the highest number of newly initiated insolvencies in the first quarter of this year for every 1,000 active companies.
